Cosplays

• Original Red & Blue (2024)
  • Every piece of this cosplay is at least altered or embellished in some way, and much of it was thrifted. This was my first ever cosplay, and I’m still constantly upgrading pieces of it and remaking them by hand.
  • Newsprint texture on spikes made from clippings of political news articles, mostly current events
  • Machine-sewn red spandex undersuit, mask, and gloves, all with self-designed, Cricut-cut stretch heat transfer vinyl patterns. This was my first ever clothing project
  • EVA foam guitar: neck detaches to fit inside a carry-on suitcase, and the body is hollow and can hold storage
  • Self-designed, 3D-printed faceshell with magnetically attached spikes and lenses
  • Hand-embroidered grid pattern on pants and puff-painted patches

• Pink Spider-Punk/Pride Hobie (2025)
  • My first concept piece and color variant! I themed this one after Gay Pride and debuted it at the 2025 DC Dyke March.
  • Machine-sewn undersuit, mask, and gloves with self-designed, Cricut-cut stretch heat-transfer vinyl patterns
  • The newsprint collage texture on the spikes is comprised of news articles about LGBT rights
  • Added a pink triangle behind the Spider-Punk back logo
  • EL wire lighting to outline the vest seams, pink triangle, and back logo
  • Pins are a showcase of several years’ worth of collecting Pride and activism-related pins
• Blue & Orange (2026)
  • This one is interesting because it involved a lot of looking at specific frames from the movie where Hobie was in this color palette. In most of them, the pants are plain with no patches. But in one frame, the designs are visible but placed directly onto the pants rather than sewn-in patches (or possibly patches of the same color and material as the pants). So I embroidered them directly onto the pants.
  • Dyed vest and pants bright orange. I also hand-embroidered over the top stitching with a contrasting thread (bright blue/teal)
  • Machine-sewn undersuit, mask, and gloves with self-designed, Cricut-cut stretch heat-transfer vinyl patterns
  • Currently using either teal high-top Converse or a pair of thrifted bright blue sneakers with orange accents, depending on whether my Gwen is around 🙂 (“Are those my Chucks?”)
• Black & White Newsprint (Coming Soon)
  • Uses the same undersuit, gloves, and mask as Blue & Orange
  • Thrifted two pairs of newsprint-patterned jeans, both of which were a little too small for me, so I used the fabric from one of them to make the other one large enough to comfortably fit me.

I don’t believe in gatekeeping, so here’s a non-exhaustive materials source list:

• Rockville Makerspace and Tool Library—a really great resource for anyone in or near Montgomery County, MD. They have just about every machine you can think of (3D printers, laser cutters/engravers, a full wood shop, embroidery machine, serger) and classes on how to use them.
• G Street Fabrics in Rockville, MD (not cheap, but worth it)
• Thrift stores near colleges, especially at the end of the school year and common moving days locally (i.e. September 1st in Boston)
• WAWAK (sewing notions)
• Studs and Spikes for, well, studs and spikes

• Punk Addict for some accessories (their wrist cuff with pyramid studs is the closest to screen-accurate that I’ve been able to find; a lot of gauntlets on the market have spikes)
